Create a Dbspace

From DB-Monitor

1. From within DB-Monitor, select the Parameters menu, Shared-

Memory option tochangethe maximum numberofchunks. Change

the value in the ﬁeld, Max # of Chunks.

Reinitialize shared memory (take OnLine ofﬂine and then to

quiescent mode) for the change to take effect.

From the Command Line

1. To change the value of CHUNKS from the command line, use an

editor to edit the ﬁle speciﬁed by $INFORMIXDIR/etc/$TBCONFIG.

2. Change the value of CHUNKS. Reinitialize shared memory (take

OnLine ofﬂine and then to quiescent mode) for the change to take

effect.

Create a Dbspace

This section provides instructions for creating a dbspace.

Verify that you will not exceed the maximum number of blobspaces and

dbspaces allowed in your conﬁguration, speciﬁed as DBSPACES.

You specify an explicit pathname for the initial chunk of the dbspace.

Informix recommends that you use a linked pathname. (Refer to page 1-22

for further information about the beneﬁts of using linked pathnames. Refer

topage 2-93forfurtherinformationabout selectingachunkpathname.Refer

to page 1-43 for guidelines on how to determine where your chunks should

be located on disk.)

If you areallocating arawdisk device,youmight needtospecify an offset to

preserve track 0 information used by your UNIX operating system. (Refer to

page 1-49 for further information about how to determine if you need an

offset.)

If you are allocating cooked disk space, the pathname is a ﬁle in a UNIX ﬁle

system.

If you are logged in as user informix, you can create a dbspace within

DB-Monitoror fromthe command line.Ifyouareloggedin as root, youmust

use the command-line option.
